Automated Management of Communication Systems
The management of softwarized communication systems constitutes a highly complex task. The integration of in-band monitroing, data-plane programming and reconfiguration at runtime in addition to simultaneously supporting hardware-accelerated computations for heterogeneous distributed applications is difficult and cumbersome. In this research area, we focus on systems methods to allow adaptive, application-tailored and hardware-near, dataplane functions at communication line rate.

Model- and Data-driven Performance Evaluation of Distributed Real-Time Systems
We focus on developing analytical models that can be enriched through collected data and statistical techniques to understand and design complex distributed real-time systems. In this research area, we consider different communication paradigms such as parallel computing in large cloud systems, unified caching and forwarding networks as well as time-sensitive networks. Our analytical models enable understanding the interactions in such systems as well as optimizing the ressource use therein.

Immersive Multimedia Coding and Distribution
360° video, 6 Degrees of Freedom (hologram) streaming as well as cyber-physical sensor systems face challenges with respect to interactivity as well as real-time requirements. In this research area, we develop multi-sensor, multi-modal capturing, coding and distribution methods for scalable communication system-assisted interactive and immersive multimedia that utilize adaptive source as well as in-network processing.
